Caricatures For Gifts
Posted on: Tuesday 17th July, 2007
21st gift ideas seem to have caught on with lots of enquiries lately for this special birthday.
An aspect of caricatures some people have sometimes expressed - especially before they select a caricature for a gift - is that the caricature might be 'mean'.
That is, caricatures might focus on a very unflattering aspect of the subject being painted.
We want our caricatures to be a very positive and uplifting experience, so avoid over-exaggerating an aspect that the subject might be uncomfortable about.
My caricatures are world travelers
Posted on: Saturday 16th June, 2007
I just did my first caricature for a customer from Riga in Latvia. It was a gift for her boyfriend's 21st birthday. She ordered, paid for and sent photos all online and it was as simple as if she had lived in the next suburb. I have also done personalized gift caricatures for customers right across the United States from California to New York State plus throughout the United Kingdom and Australia and New Zealand.
One day soon I hope to be as well travelled as my caricatures are!
I am yet to do one from Alaska, anyone up that way that would like to order a caricature just contact me.
cheers

Bigfoot makes an impression
Posted on: Monday 11th June, 2007
if you walk along the beaches here on the Gold Coast you may occasionally come across some very strange footprints. On closer inspection you'll find it's actually wording......w w w s p r a t t i a r t . c o m
...that's right my web address. I came up with the idea of placing cut out rubber lettering on the bottom of a pair of my thongs. Now when I go for a wander along the beach I grab myself a little free publicity and make an impression.
The thing I like most about it is that it all disappears with the high tide. If only all advertising was so easily removed.
PS: I had to make sure all the letters were reversed when I stuck them down. I didn't want to have something that might offend non English speakers.

Producing a caricature-steps I go through
Posted on: Wednesday 6th June, 2007
Many of you where interested in the steps I went through to produce one of my caricatures. I have put together a link showing the steps I go through.Every caricature I produce is carefully planned to include a lot personal detail, at no extra charge (most charge for additional details). Because of this planning the details often link together in a funny visual pun making the finished caricature a uniquely personal gift.
Anyway have a look at the steps involved, you will see there is quite a bit of work in each caricature I produce - click here.
A perfect retirement gift!
Posted on: Monday 4th June, 2007
I recently completed a caricature as a retirement gift for a guy
who was selling his trucking company and about to enjoy a well deserved retirement. His staff commissioned the double caricature of himself and his wife.
The retirement caricature included many of their personal traits and interests.
For a successful business man that had everything it proved to be a great success, one they will treasure for years to come.

A Unique Wedding Gift Idea
Posted on: Wednesday 9th May, 2007
I produced a black and white caricature of Rita and Matt who were looking for a unique wedding gift idea.
They then had it printed on their wedding invitations much to the amusement of all the guests.
Commissioned Larger Color Caricature
For their actual wedding day they commissioned a larger color caricature which I suggested they have the wedding guests sign around.
When the finished caricature was framed they had a unique, lasting and very personal memento of their wedding day.
They kindly sent me the following testimony - thanks Rita and Matt, all the best for your future together.
"...never fail to mention how great the caricatures were..."
“Dearest Phil,
Just a quick note to express our sincerest appreciation for your exceptionally professional service.
You did a wonderful job on both our black and white and color caricatures.
We searched the net for a few different caricaturists, but none of them compare to you.
Talking to some of our guests over Christmas, they never fail to mention how great the caricatures were, and the wonderful idea to incorporate the caricature as a signature frame.
Thanks again for your, effort and beautiful masterpieces.
With much love and thanks.”

Free Cartoons For All
Posted on: Tuesday 1st May, 2007
I am a bit of a greenie at heart, I guess that comes from looking closely at things around me. I've always said "to draw is to know".
Anyway this month's Spratti Freetoon deals with the global warming issue.
As with most issues people are polarized as to whether or not it is man made or a cyclic weather pattern. Either way something is going on.

Enjoy it and send it to a friend.
Regards
Phil
